Most Visited Sites of Malta

Today I worked on making my website more accessible to Google. This is known as Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and it is a very popular and profitable service some are capable in offering. It involves making a sitemap for Google to know the pages you have on your site, adding the proper meta tags, etc.

During this process I decided to check out Alexa to see what the most visited websites in the world are. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that I can see the most visited websites by country.

For Alexa to track these sites the user must have some adware installed on their computer. So this won’t be the whole Maltese population but still it’s quite shocking when you see some of the sites that are up there.

Malta Rank Global Rank
Facebook.com 1 2
Google.com 2 1
Google.com.mt 3 12,814

So far all seems pretty normal. Maltese love social networking, checking their emails and news, wasting time on youtube, and reading blogs. All well and good. You can practically say that the statistics so far match the global trend. Alexa lists the Top 100 sites for each country. I don’t have the patience to type out all the links but the list can be view here.

It starts getting interesting at about 23. This is where the porn and file sharing starts. The strangest from all these sites is Xhamster. I thought it was some weird Maltese website. But after going on the site to check it out I press close so hard my left button on my mouse broke. I was at work with my bosses sitting on the table and people running around I didn’t want to get a reputation of watching porn in public. This is why NSFW tags should be used.

If anyone has ever been in a situation similar to what happened to me today please share as a comment below.

I’m surprise that porn is just at number 23. recently i read an article that porn basically controls the Internet today. the majority of the Internet worldwide is used by watching porn. there are so many websites and videos that its crazy to think about.

yeah I guess but I was more confused about the site xhamster. I was thinking some Maltese guy made a site to tribute his hamster or something when the site is really quite different lol
